Sew for Victory!

Here is my finished Sew for Victory shirt! I finished it the other day but with the extended deadline decided to wait to post them till I had made a blog post.

I used Wearing History's Smooth Sailing Blouse and Michael Miller's Wild Blue Yonder fabric. I lengthened the shirt by two inches and then only did a half inch hem, which added another inch of length. Necessary for me to wear it with out high waisted pants.  I used Casey's tutorial on sleeve ease to take out a lot of the puff on the sleeves. Not as historically accurate, but I wanted to make something I would actually wear. (the link to that: http://blog.caseybrowndesigns.com/2010/12/demystifying-sleeve-ease/)

There are so many flowers blooming around the property right now.

Working in the Victory Garden

Bran the boarder collie was sitting under my bench the whole time while working on this shirt.

The back

The tree behind me is a Flamingo Dogwood and is was apparently very popular in the 1950's. I think it is beautiful and should make a comeback.

My sister and I had a good time take the photos for the blog, and I'm thinking about starting to regularly post my sewing projects. Just need to learn how to properly format things and what not! I had a lot of fun participating in my first sew-a-long though!

Name & Location: My name is Victoria and am in the process of finding somewhere new to live in the Puget Sound region. Let’s say I live in Seattle.
Blog: You're on it
How long have you been sewing: On and (mostly) off seven years
Why did you want to commit to The Sew Weekly Challenge: I miss sewing garments and can use some motivation. I have really enjoyed reading The Sew Weekly for the past year and some.
What do you love most about sewing garments: Having something to wear that no one else has and I can have the joy of saying I made myself.
What do you hate most about sewing garments: I have no set place to sew and really had setting up and packing everything away when I am done so I can use the table again. Also I hate sewing on the floor and using my knee to press the foot pedal.
What do you want to accomplish this year with regard to the challenge: Sew some dresses from vintage patterns for less than $15.
Your biggest non-sewing goal of 2012: Its still a sewing goal, but not related to the challenge- get into Seattle Central’s Apparel Design Program.
What are your favorite sewing/fashion blogs: Gertie’s New Blog for Better Sewing, Vixen Vintage, Sweetheart of the Rodeo, Coletterie, and of course The Sew Weekly

So I haven't been here in a while...

A little over a year. I really wasn't sure I wanted to use this blog again, but I might as well, I don't really want to start another. I am taking this over now to post the things that I am doing with the Sew Weekly and some photography projects I'm up to. Maybe some other interesting goings on of my life.

In the Colour Darkroom

This is one of my favourite parts of my school. I love this machine.
I used to go to UW where I was a photo major because I wanted to learn colour film printing and the only way to do it was as a major. They took out the colour darkroom after my second quarter. Eventually I grew sick of making videos and taking classes just because they were required so I transfered down to where I am now.
School has the most magical photo center ever. The colour dark room is alive and super popular. It is so well designed with individual booths so you can turn on the lights when ever, instead of one large on where you couldn't tell who else was in there with you.
The black and white darkroom is large and nice, the digital lab is fine, but UW's was a little easier with their macs and card printing system.
But here there is a great film processing area- you can even develop your own colour film. There is a special projects room for alterative processes and mural printing- I have been working on a series of life size portraits that are 40' by 7 feet.
Today I am working on printing some photos from spring of last year. You can't really see it but these are from a field trip to a feed lot.
Since I am an inter in the photo labs I get unlimited access. I haven't taken full advantage of this because

I just had to stop writing because one of my coworkers got stuck in one of the colour booths. Good thing there are a few of us here. It appears that the door came off the rollers. He could of been stuck till tomorrow at noon!

As I was saying, why I haven't taken advantage is because I always get scared in here when I am alone. Scared of the dark and how big this place is, and now scared of getting stuck in a booth. Oh boy.

I soaked some fabric in cyanotype to start another quilt. I can't decide was should be on it, I was thinking perhaps a kid's blanket on the abc's of industrial ag? Going along with my abc's of grass species.
Another look at the beauty.
I must get back to printing now.

Haylage

After being sick in bed for two days I got up early today to roll around 900 pound bales of haylage that were delivered for our sheep. 14 bales in total.
It was pretty fun! We had had some races and only one person got run over. Now we should have enough feed to last us through lambing- once we get our one ton alfalfa bales. Luckily the farmer who's land we use moves those with his tractor.

Red's Donuts

I went to Monterey on a field trip and a some of my friends found the raddest donut shop ever. Luckily they took me there. There were a bunch of old people there, hanging out at the counter, shooting the breeze. The man at the counter was a riot and kept yelling and making jokes. They have been there for over fifty years and it was nice to see something real.

I want to go on a road trip and find all these old places.
